4th of July Part 2

The other half of the pictures from our camping weekend. I realized something- I didn't get ANY of my parents or my sister and her husband! :-( But I did get some good ones of the kids and their activities. We did a LOT of exploring. And swimming. The weather was beautiful and so was our destination. There is no electricity, just generators which they run in the morning from 6am-9am and again from 6pm to 10pm. it's actually really nice! Everything gets nice and quiet at 10am. I really want to go back again next year. We did get Tinyman on a 4 wheeler. Well, *I* got him on one- as long as I was driving. He seemed to like it ok... there were beautiful types of birds in the birdhouse and the owner was a magnificent gardener! Amazing pots and beds of flowers everywhere you looked. A nice clean lake and quiet campground with lots of hiking trails. We met a nice guy Forrest while up there and he took my Dad on a 3 hour 4 wheeler ride around the lake. My dad said it was one of the best trails he's ever been on! I think that was the highlight of his trip! :-) We had our good friends come up for the day and really enjoyed their company. All in all, a wonderful weekend filled with laughter and giggles, and memories were made. And that's how I define "The good life" here in Northern Maine.

Totally Random

A totally random post for this totally random moment on the streets of Machias. I have no idea what it means. When I saw it, it stopped me dead in my tracks. (This is good time to point out to my friends that it IS a good thing to ALWAYS have my camera with me!!)

Hippies? I didn't know we were back in the 60's. And side door? I never saw one. And how about that stuff on the steps? How's *that* for random?

4th of July Part 1

We went camping over 4th of July weekend in the woods on Northern Maine. My parents, sister and brother in law and 2 nephews came with us. We rented out a very rustic* 8 person cabin. It came fully stocked, including a friendly bat which we named Bruce Wayne and a HUGE spider ( which greeted my brother in law ON HIS ARM the first morning he awoke!) which we named Peter Parkman. Oh yes, we were a close bunch. Einstein and I decided to sleep out in the tent on a deflating mattress to avoid the noise sucking snoring of my father inside the cabin. The weather was amazing! Here are pictures from our first day there. There was a small "parade" for the kids, which the girls thought was just "awesome". After the kids all got a 4 wheeler ride, leaving Tinyman behind. (he was a bit sad but he WOULDN'T go on the 4 wheeler!!) There was some swimming and of course a beautiful sunset and sparklers to finish off our first day there. My favorite part of the cabin was the deer-hoof gun rack. How much more redneck can you get than that??!!?? Part 2 to come later tonight.......

Rogues Bluff... Ocean Part 1

OK, OK, sorry for all the photos but I can't figure out how to add a slideshow to my blog post. :-( So, I'm going to post our day at the ocean in 2 parts. Some of these pictures have a little artistic flare to them, and there are over 30 pictures from this day. I took a LOT of pictures :-) (Deleted about 3/4 of the ones I took! Yeah for digital.....) I have to admit I really enjoyed going back and editing these pictures. At the time I was so overwhelmed with Wedding photos that I just couldn't get to them.. nor had the desire to edit and upload them.
